Monte Carlo, on your phone

Test a money decision before you make it.

Can you take a year off? Retire at 60? Rent or buy? Monte runs 10,000 possible futures on your own numbers and tells you plainly how often your plan holds. It runs on your phone, with no account.

Monte's answer to 'Can I retire at 65?': your savings last to 95 in 65 of every 100 futures, shown as 100 dots, with the exact count of the 10,000 simulated futures.

From the appThe answer to the app's own example, "Can I retire at 65?". Your answer runs on your numbers, on your phone.

The answer

Not one forecast. How often your plan holds.

01 / One clear count

Out of every 100 futures

Markets rise and fall, careers land or don't, and bad early years sink plans. Monte runs 10,000 of those futures and counts how many your plan survives: "Your money lasts through the next 10 years in 87 of every 100 futures."

02 / On your phone

Your numbers stay yours

The simulation runs on the device. Your pay, savings and plans are stored there, encrypted, and nowhere else. No account, no bank connection, no analytics, no ads.

03 / Built to be checked

Every number has a source

Each answer opens the method behind it, with your own numbers in the formulas, every default with its source, and what the model leaves out. Watch the futures play out one by one, including the ones that run out.

Questions

Ask about what's changing.

Each question starts from a cited example. Put in your own numbers and the answer runs again.

Work and income

  • What if my pay stops?
  • Can I quit to start a business?
  • Can I afford to change careers?

Time off and stopping work

  • Can I take time off?
  • Can I work less?
  • Can I stop working?
  • Can I retire when I plan to?
  • I've stopped working. Will my money last?

Home and place

  • Rent or buy?
  • How much house can I afford?
  • Can I afford to move?

Family

  • Can we live on one income?
  • Can we afford a child?
  • Can I support my parents?

Big money moves

  • Can I afford this big purchase?
  • What could a windfall change?
  • What if I put money into a business or property?

Saving and debt

  • Will I reach my savings goal?
  • Pay off debt or invest?
When no question fits

Build your own plan, block by block.

A home, a child, a raise that might come, a market crash, a loan, a pension. Tie changes to the same moment, repeat costs every year, give the amounts you are unsure of as a range, and see how it all plays out together.

Start from scratch or from one of the example plans: a baby and a bigger home, a bridge to retirement, a year off before buying.

Building a plan in Monte: blocks for having a child, a bigger home, working four days a week, university costs and downsizing, laid out on a timeline.
How it works

From a question to an answer you can check.

Step 01

Ask

Pick the question you are actually asking, or build your own plan. Each one opens on a worked example, so you see an answer before you type anything.

Step 02

Your numbers

Change the values in the sentence: pay, spending, savings, the age you stop, the price of the home. Every amount is in today's money.

Step 03

10,000 futures

Monte simulates the plan month by month, 10,000 times, each future with its own run of markets drawn at random. It takes a moment, on the phone.

Step 04

Read it, then test it

One count out of 100 and the exact figure behind it. Then see the same plan under weaker and stronger markets, and the numbers that would change the answer.

What it would take

The number that changes the answer

The spending, saving, age or rent that reaches 9, 8 or 7 in 10 futures, with the range it could fall in.

Deep Simulation

Up to 225 versions of your plan on one map

Move one or two of your numbers across a range, every combination simulated on the same futures: over a million futures in one map. Find the nearest plan that works, and keep the map with your plan.

Your own plans, further

Model your own situation

Up to 40 blocks, rules on your savings ("stop working once I reach my number"), ranges for what you are not sure of, and the different ways a plan could go.

A Deep Simulation map: retirement age against monthly spending, each square a version of the plan with its count out of 100, and the nearest plan that reaches 9 in 10 futures marked.

Method

Open by default. Checkable by design.

Monte simulates your plan month by month, in today's money, across 10,000 futures. In each one, markets are drawn at random every month: your savings are held as a mix you can see and change (cash, bonds, shares at home and worldwide, gold, foreign currency), each part with a typical return above inflation, a spread and its links to the others, taken from long-run data (the UBS Global Investment Returns Yearbook, Damodaran). Worldwide shares, for a saver in dollars or euros, grow a median 5% a year above inflation, with a 16% spread.

A comparison, such as renting against buying, runs both choices on the same futures, so the gap between them is the choice's own effect, not luck. What it would take and Deep Simulation do the same: every version of a plan meets the same markets.

What the model leaves out is written down with the same care. Returns are drawn from smooth distributions, so real markets' rare extreme months and crises, in which nearly everything falls together, are milder here than in history; a crash can be added to your own plan as a block. Each answer page says what it assumes and what it leaves out, and the full method ships inside the app, one tap from every answer.

FAQ

Reasonable questions, answered plainly.

Is Monte financial advice?+

No. Monte is an educational simulator. It shows how often a plan holds across the futures a model can produce; it does not know your full situation, select investments, or tell you what to do. For decisions involving real money, talk to a licensed professional.

What does "87 of every 100 futures" mean?+

Monte ran your plan through 10,000 possible futures, and in about 87 of every 100 of them the plan held as the question counts it: the money lasted, the goal was reached, or one choice was ahead. The app also shows the exact count, such as 8,734 of the 10,000. It is not a promise about your future; it describes how the plan fares across many possible ones.

Where do the assumptions come from?+

Each question opens on cited defaults, and every market assumption names its source: long-run returns and spreads from the UBS Global Investment Returns Yearbook and Damodaran's data, inflation by currency, and research for the rest, such as how long a job search takes. You can change your mix, and the method page shows the formulas with your numbers.

Does it work offline?+

Always. The simulation runs on the phone, there is no server, and the Android app has no internet permission at all.

What is free, and what does Premium cost?+

Every question, its full answer across 10,000 futures, saving, sharing as a picture and the PDF report are free, along with one What it would take answer, a 5 × 5 Deep Simulation preview and plans of up to 3 blocks.

Premium is $7.99 a month, $39.99 a year or $79.99 once in the US; each store sets the local price and shows it before you confirm. Subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel them in your store account. Refunds are handled by the App Store or Google Play under their own policies.

Which languages and currencies?+

The app is in English and Turkish. You choose your currency; amounts are entered and shown in it, and the defaults and inflation follow it. Switching currency relabels your numbers, it never converts them.

Can I move my plans to a new phone?+

Yes: Settings, Your data, Back up my plans makes a file you keep, and restoring it on the new phone adds the plans back. Premium moves with your store account: Settings, Restore purchases.
