Test a money decision before you make it.
Can you take a year off? Retire at 60? Rent or buy? Monte runs 10,000 possible futures on your own numbers and tells you plainly how often your plan holds. It runs on your phone, with no account.
From the appThe answer to the app's own example, "Can I retire at 65?". Your answer runs on your numbers, on your phone.
Not one forecast. How often your plan holds.
Out of every 100 futures
Markets rise and fall, careers land or don't, and bad early years sink plans. Monte runs 10,000 of those futures and counts how many your plan survives: "Your money lasts through the next 10 years in 87 of every 100 futures."
Your numbers stay yours
The simulation runs on the device. Your pay, savings and plans are stored there, encrypted, and nowhere else. No account, no bank connection, no analytics, no ads.
Every number has a source
Each answer opens the method behind it, with your own numbers in the formulas, every default with its source, and what the model leaves out. Watch the futures play out one by one, including the ones that run out.
Ask about what's changing.
Each question starts from a cited example. Put in your own numbers and the answer runs again.
Work and income
- What if my pay stops?
- Can I quit to start a business?
- Can I afford to change careers?
Time off and stopping work
- Can I take time off?
- Can I work less?
- Can I stop working?
- Can I retire when I plan to?
- I've stopped working. Will my money last?
Home and place
- Rent or buy?
- How much house can I afford?
- Can I afford to move?
Family
- Can we live on one income?
- Can we afford a child?
- Can I support my parents?
Big money moves
- Can I afford this big purchase?
- What could a windfall change?
- What if I put money into a business or property?
Saving and debt
- Will I reach my savings goal?
- Pay off debt or invest?
Build your own plan, block by block.
A home, a child, a raise that might come, a market crash, a loan, a pension. Tie changes to the same moment, repeat costs every year, give the amounts you are unsure of as a range, and see how it all plays out together.
Start from scratch or from one of the example plans: a baby and a bigger home, a bridge to retirement, a year off before buying.
From a question to an answer you can check.
Ask
Pick the question you are actually asking, or build your own plan. Each one opens on a worked example, so you see an answer before you type anything.
Your numbers
Change the values in the sentence: pay, spending, savings, the age you stop, the price of the home. Every amount is in today's money.
10,000 futures
Monte simulates the plan month by month, 10,000 times, each future with its own run of markets drawn at random. It takes a moment, on the phone.
Read it, then test it
One count out of 100 and the exact figure behind it. Then see the same plan under weaker and stronger markets, and the numbers that would change the answer.
Open by default. Checkable by design.
Monte simulates your plan month by month, in today's money, across 10,000 futures. In each one, markets are drawn at random every month: your savings are held as a mix you can see and change (cash, bonds, shares at home and worldwide, gold, foreign currency), each part with a typical return above inflation, a spread and its links to the others, taken from long-run data (the UBS Global Investment Returns Yearbook, Damodaran). Worldwide shares, for a saver in dollars or euros, grow a median 5% a year above inflation, with a 16% spread.
A comparison, such as renting against buying, runs both choices on the same futures, so the gap between them is the choice's own effect, not luck. What it would take and Deep Simulation do the same: every version of a plan meets the same markets.
What the model leaves out is written down with the same care. Returns are drawn from smooth distributions, so real markets' rare extreme months and crises, in which nearly everything falls together, are milder here than in history; a crash can be added to your own plan as a block. Each answer page says what it assumes and what it leaves out, and the full method ships inside the app, one tap from every answer.
Nothing to collect, so nothing to lose.
Monte runs on your phone and keeps what you enter there. These are properties of how it is built, not promises in a document.
Effective 11 Oct 2026 · Full policy
The privacy policy, in full+
Monte is made by its developer, who publishes it under the name Monte Labs ("we", "us"). The developer's legal name and country are shown on Monte's App Store and Google Play pages. This policy is published at https://endofhomodeus.github.io/monte/privacy/ and also ships inside the app, so it can be read with no connection. Both are the same text.
Monte is a financial simulator that runs entirely on your phone. Everything you enter (pay, spending, savings, the plans you save) stays on your device, encrypted. Monte has no account, no server, no analytics, no advertising and no crash reporting, and the Android app does not hold the permission to use the internet at all. Data leaves your device only when you choose to share a file, and deleting the app deletes the data.
Section 01What we collect
Nothing.
Monte operates no server, no account system and no telemetry of any kind, so there is nothing for us to receive. We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, address, government ID or payment details. We do not collect your IP address, advertising ID or any other tracking signal. We do not collect location, contacts, health, biometric or device-identifier data. We do not collect crash reports or usage metrics: the app contains no analytics or crash-reporting code.
Section 02What stays on your device
These are kept on your device only, in an encrypted database (section 6). We never see them.
- Your plans, their answers, and the values you entered.
- Your preferences: language, currency, theme, and whether Monte may carry a few values (such as take-home pay) from one question to the next.
- Plan check-ins you set: reminders scheduled with your phone's own notification system. A reminder names the question only, never an amount.
- A problem log: if the app hits an unexpected error, a short technical record (no amounts and no names) is kept so you can read it, send it to us yourself if you choose, or delete it. It is never sent automatically.
Section 03How your data is used
Your locally stored data is used for exactly one purpose: to render your saved scenarios, run simulations, and let you re-open past work, all on the device. No data is used for advertising, profiling or training machine-learning models, by us or by anyone else, because no data ever reaches us or anyone else.
Section 04Sharing and disclosure
We do not sell your data, share it with advertisers or data brokers, or disclose it to any third party. We could not, because we do not have it.
- Files you share: pictures, PDF reports and backup files are made only when you ask, and handed to your phone's share sheet. Where they go is your choice, and the privacy terms of whatever you share them with apply there.
- Purchases: Premium is bought through Apple's App Store or Google Play. The store takes the payment under its own privacy policy. On your device, the store tells Monte which product you bought and whether it is active, so Premium can be unlocked. We receive no payment details and run no purchase server.
- Ratings: when Monte invites you to rate it, the store's own rating screen is used. Anything you write there goes to the store under its terms.
- Legal requests: if we were ever asked by a court to disclose user data, we would have nothing to produce. The data exists only on your device.
Section 05Permissions Monte uses
- Notifications: only once you set a plan check-in, to show that reminder.
- Billing (Android): to buy and restore Premium through Google Play.
- Monte does not use the internet, location, contacts, camera, microphone, photos or any tracking. On iOS there is no App Tracking Transparency prompt, because there is no tracking to ask about.
Section 06Storage, security and how long data is kept
- All app data is stored in an encrypted local database. Encryption is always on.
- The database key is generated on your device and held in the platform keystore (Android Keystore or iOS Keychain). It never leaves the device and is not backed up.
- There is no sync of any kind, and the operating system's automatic backup is switched off for Monte, so no copy of your data goes to a cloud service.
- Your data is kept until you delete it: one plan (from its menu on the home screen), everything (Settings, Your data, Delete all my data), or the app itself. We hold nothing, so there is nothing for us to keep or delete.
- A backup file you make in Settings is plain text that you keep. Monte does not encrypt it, so store it somewhere you trust. Restoring it adds its plans back; it never overwrites a plan already on the phone.
Section 07Your rights
Because we hold no data about you, every right below is met directly on your device, without contacting anyone. You can still write to us at any time (section 10).
European Union (GDPR), United Kingdom (UK GDPR), Switzerland
- Access and portability: your data is in the app; Settings, Your data, Back up my plans gives you all of it in one portable file.
- Erasure: delete it in Settings, Your data, Delete all my data, or uninstall the app. Either is complete; there is no copy anywhere else.
- Objection and restriction: nothing is collected, so there is no processing to object to.
- Complaints: you can contact your local data-protection authority.
California (CCPA / CPRA)
- Right to know and to delete: as above; we hold nothing.
- Right to opt out of sale or sharing: we do not sell or share data.
- Right to non-discrimination: the price is the same whether or not you use any right.
Brazil (LGPD), Canada (PIPEDA), Japan (APPI), Türkiye (KVKK)
Equivalent rights apply, and they are met the same way: nothing is held by us, and everything on the device is under your direct control.
Apple App Tracking Transparency
We do not track you, do not use the advertising identifier and do not include third-party trackers.
Section 08Children
Monte is meant for adults making their own financial decisions and is not directed at anyone under 18. Because we collect nothing, we hold no data about anyone of any age.
Section 09Changes to this policy
If a future version ever changed what is collected, the change would be described here and in the store privacy declarations before it ships, and the app would ask you to read and accept it again before you continue. Clarifications that change nothing about collection get a new effective date only.
Section 10Contact
Write to hello@sableloft.com for privacy questions, data requests, security issues and anything else.
This siteNo cookies, no third parties
This site holds the same posture as the app. It sets no cookies, runs no analytics, no tag manager and no fingerprinting, and requests nothing from a third-party domain: the typefaces are served from this domain, so reading a privacy policy does not disclose your IP address to anyone else. There is no consent banner because there is nothing to consent to. If you use the light/dark control, that one choice is written to your own browser's storage and never leaves it.
Reasonable questions, answered plainly.
Is Monte financial advice?+
No. Monte is an educational simulator. It shows how often a plan holds across the futures a model can produce; it does not know your full situation, select investments, or tell you what to do. For decisions involving real money, talk to a licensed professional.
What does "87 of every 100 futures" mean?+
Monte ran your plan through 10,000 possible futures, and in about 87 of every 100 of them the plan held as the question counts it: the money lasted, the goal was reached, or one choice was ahead. The app also shows the exact count, such as 8,734 of the 10,000. It is not a promise about your future; it describes how the plan fares across many possible ones.
Where do the assumptions come from?+
Each question opens on cited defaults, and every market assumption names its source: long-run returns and spreads from the UBS Global Investment Returns Yearbook and Damodaran's data, inflation by currency, and research for the rest, such as how long a job search takes. You can change your mix, and the method page shows the formulas with your numbers.
Does it work offline?+
Always. The simulation runs on the phone, there is no server, and the Android app has no internet permission at all.
What is free, and what does Premium cost?+
Every question, its full answer across 10,000 futures, saving, sharing as a picture and the PDF report are free, along with one What it would take answer, a 5 × 5 Deep Simulation preview and plans of up to 3 blocks.
Premium is $7.99 a month, $39.99 a year or $79.99 once in the US; each store sets the local price and shows it before you confirm. Subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel them in your store account. Refunds are handled by the App Store or Google Play under their own policies.
Which languages and currencies?+
The app is in English and Turkish. You choose your currency; amounts are entered and shown in it, and the defaults and inflation follow it. Switching currency relabels your numbers, it never converts them.
Can I move my plans to a new phone?+
Yes: Settings, Your data, Back up my plans makes a file you keep, and restoring it on the new phone adds the plans back. Premium moves with your store account: Settings, Restore purchases.

The terms of use, in full+
These terms are an agreement between you and Monte's developer about the Monte app. The developer publishes Monte under the name Monte Labs ("we", "us"); the developer's legal name and country are shown on Monte's App Store and Google Play pages. By using Monte you accept them. They are published at https://endofhomodeus.github.io/monte/terms/ and also ship inside the app. If you got Monte from Apple's App Store, Apple's standard licence agreement for apps also applies.
Monte is educational software for exploring hypothetical financial plans on your phone. Every answer is a model of what could happen, and the decisions are yours. Your data stays on your device. Premium is sold by the App Store or Google Play; subscriptions renew until you cancel them in your store account, and a lifetime purchase is paid once.
Section 01What Monte is
Monte is an educational simulator, not financial advice.
It illustrates possible outcomes of hypothetical financial scenarios you define. All outputs are computer-generated from your inputs and statistical models; they are not predictions, recommendations, or guarantees.
We do not know your circumstances, do not select investments for you, and are not a financial adviser, broker, planner, or fiduciary in any jurisdiction. For decisions involving real money, please consult a licensed professional.
Section 02Your licence to use Monte
- We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to install and use Monte on devices you own or control, under the usage rules of the store you got it from.
- You may not copy, resell or redistribute the app, or reverse engineer it except where the law allows you to.
- You may not use Monte to break the law or to harm anyone.
Section 03Your data
Everything you enter stays on your device, as the privacy policy describes. We cannot see, recover or restore your data. Keeping backups (Settings, Your data, Back up my plans) is up to you.
Section 04Premium and payment
- Every free answer stays free. Premium adds features, described in the app before you buy.
- Premium is offered as a monthly subscription, a yearly subscription, or a one-time lifetime purchase. The price, the length of each period and what is included are shown in the app and by the store before you confirm.
- Payment is charged to your App Store or Google Play account when you confirm the purchase.
- A subscription renews automatically at the end of each period, at the price then in effect, unless you cancel it at least 24 hours before the period ends. The store charges the renewal within the 24 hours before the period ends.
- You can turn off automatic renewal or cancel at any time in your store account: on iPhone and iPad in Settings, your name, Subscriptions; on Android in Google Play, Payments and subscriptions, Subscriptions. Premium then stays on until the end of the period you paid for.
- The lifetime purchase is paid once, never renews, and keeps Premium on for as long as Monte is offered for your device.
- If a subscription price changes, the store tells you before it applies and, where the rules require, asks for your agreement.
- Refunds are handled by the store under its own policies; we cannot issue them directly. Nothing here reduces the rights consumer law gives you.
- To move Premium to a new device, use Settings, Restore purchases, signed in to the same store account.
Section 05Changes to Monte
We improve Monte over time and may add, change or remove features. If we remove a Premium feature you paid for, we will offer something of equal value or the remedies the law gives you.
Section 06No warranty
Monte is provided as it is and as available. To the extent the law allows, we make no promise that it is error-free, that it will always be available, or that its answers fit your situation.
Section 07Limits on our liability
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for decisions you make with Monte, or for indirect or consequential losses. Our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid for Monte in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits liability that the law does not allow to be limited.
Section 08Ending these terms
You can stop using Monte at any time by deleting it. We may end your licence if you break these terms. Sections 1, 6 and 7 continue after the licence ends.
Section 09Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of the country where we live or are established, as shown on those store pages. This never takes away the protection of the mandatory consumer laws of the country where you live, or your right to bring a claim there.
Section 10Language
Monte shows these terms, its privacy policy and its notice in your language where a translation exists. Translations are for your convenience; where a translation and the English text differ, the English text governs.
Section 11Changes to these terms
If we change these terms in a way that matters to you, the new version gets a new effective date and the app shows it to you before it applies.
Section 12Contact
Write to hello@sableloft.com for support, privacy questions and anything else about these terms.
